10. THE BEST KIND OF SURPRISE

Losing a pet is never easy. This is the touching moment when former NRL player Mark Riddell surprised his kids with their new best friend.

9. BARTY BREAKS THE DROUGHT

Ash Barty is fast becoming the nation’s favourite tennis player. She was outstanding at the Aus Open, reaching the quarters. Now she has guided Australia to the semi-finals of the Fed Cup for the first time since 2014.

7. KERR-boom

Speaking of hat-tricks, Sam Kerr scored a massive one in a W-League semi-final on the weekend. Two goals in extra time against Melbourne Victory completed her hatty, and secured a 4-2 win for Perth Glory.

The Glory take on Sydney FC in the Grand Final on Saturday.

6. It could have been fatal

Middleweight champion Robert Whittaker might have died if he had fought at UFC 234 last weekend. In this video, the Aussie sends a heartfelt message to his fans explaining why he had to withdraw.

Thanks for the overwhelming support from all my fans I am so blessed to know you guys have my back. A big thanks to my team mates @fabricioitte @alexprates07 @standstrongboxingcoachjustin @justinlang_ep @titusday77 and all the others from behind the scenes you guys were there from start to finish worrying and prioritizing my health above all. Lastly to @danawhite and @ufc for the immediate help and support throughout the process of testing and the emergency surgeries. I am blessed I found out when I did and avoided life long consequences. I'll be back better than ever.

Australian footballer and refugee Hakeem al-Araibi spent more than two harrowing months in a Thai prison, under constant threat of extradition to Bahrain.

This is how the man who led the campaign to have him freed, former Socceroo Crag Foster, broke the incredible news that Hakeem would be released.
